The Jonestown massacre was considered the largest consensual mass suicide in United States history. Jim Jones persuaded over 900 of his temple people to commit suicide with a poisonous concoction of fruit punch laced with cyanide and other sedatives. Jones started People's Temple in an attempt to connect the unfortunate with God, but it ended up being the complete opposite.
